Vijay's 'Leo': Tamil Cinema's 2023 Blockbuster performance

 'Leo,' starring Vijay in the lead role, was released on October 19 to coincide with Ayudha Pooja. The highly-anticipated film had a significant presence across numerous screens. Despite maintaining a strong hold for three weeks, 'Leo' experienced a reduction in screens during the fourth week due to the release of multiple Tamil films for Diwali. However, the film's substantial occupancy led to a partial recovery, and its screen count in Tamil Nadu increased for the fifth week. The underperformance of a few Diwali releases enabled the Vijay starrer to secure over 100 screens in Tamil Nadu for the following week.

The box office performance of 'Leo' is poised to surge once again. Currently, it stands as the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu, grossing Rs 215 crore. Globally, 'Leo' has exceeded Rs 615 crore, making it the top-grossing Tamil film of 2023 and surpassing the collections of Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' (Rs 610 crore). 'Leo' holds the position of the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, with Rajinikanth's '2.0' retaining the top spot.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, 'Leo' features Vijay alongside Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Menon, Arjun Sarja, Sandy, Mysskin, Mathew Thomas, George Mariyan, and Priya Anand in pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, and Manoj Paramahamsa handled the cinematography.

Meanwhile, the OTT release of 'Leo' has been postponed to a later date, as the film continues to maintain a strong presence in theaters.
