Karnataka EC's Bold Move: 36 Lakh Voters Get Notices, 40 Lakh EPICs in the Mail – Cleanup for Next Year's Elections Underway!

The Karnataka State Election Commission has initiated the distribution of notices to 36 lakh voters whose names are duplicated in electoral rolls. K Prakash, Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka Circle, revealed that over 150 Post Offices in the state have begun issuing these notices on behalf of the Election Commission. Simultaneously, 40 lakh Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are being dispatched via Speed Post for the upcoming Parliamentary elections next year, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Postal department and the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka.

Manoj Kumar Meena, Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, stated that instances of double entries for a single individual were discovered even within the same constituency. The Election Commission aims to eliminate voter duplication statewide and has sent notices to individuals appearing multiple times in the voter list. K Prakash mentioned that the notices, addressing the deletion of multiple entries and voters who have relocated out of the state, have already been booked, with approximately 4.5 lakh notices booked within a week. The Commission is expected to book around 36 lakh notices, which will be promptly delivered.

CEO Manoj Kumar Meena noted that 11.55 lakh EPICs were issued by the Commission between June and September this year after the state elections. Currently, around 32 lakh voter ID cards have been issued in Karnataka. Chief Postmaster General K Prakash added that the booking of EPICs and notices has been authorized at 84 Electoral Registration Office (ERO) locations across the state.
